Amidst today’s transactions ….
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Optioned pitcher Chad Orvella to Durham of the International League (AAA); released pitcher Mark Malaska; assigned pitchers Justin Miller and Al Reyes, catcher Mike Rose and infielder Luis Rivas to minor league camp; sent outright pitcher Chad Harville to Durham.
They each must have been hanging their pitches …
From yesterday’s list of transactions:
Kansas City Royals
Placed RHP Runelvys Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list due to lack of stamina.
And just WHY does Hernandez have a lack of stamina? Because he showed up to camp OVERWEIGHT!
In this day and age, with baseball jobs at such a premium, who dares to show up at camp out of shape?
Somewhere back in Japan, Hideki "Fat Toad" Irabu is shaking his head.
"I think Alfonso thought it through and understood all the circumstances that were involved, as did the agent, Diego Bentz. At the end of the day, Alfonso wanted to do what was best for the team."
- Jim Bowden, as quoted on MLB.COM
No Jim …. Sori didn’t do what was "best for the team" …. if he HAD, he would have never kvetched about the position change in the FIRST place.
It’s not his preference to play left field, but he has decided to make a personal sacrifice to help this franchise put the best team on the field, and that’s what he is doing."
No Jim … Sori realized he didn’t have a leg to stand on legally, and didn’t want to go without a paycheck!
You don’t do your homework, you get a failing grade. Let’s not forget the signing of Cristian Guzman to a 4-year deal without seemingly doing a complete physical, and now having Guzman say that his arm had been bothering him since his days with the Twins?
We took a risk, and that’s part of life. We didn’t think it would play out this way. It’s unfortunate that it did. But do we think we have a better lineup after the trade than before? Yes."
Hmmm …. you take an above-average offense/horrible defense 2B and turn him into an average-offense/below average defense LF, AND you give up Brad Wilkerson and two decent prospects, and your lineup is BETTER????
Jim Bowden …. clueless!
"The swing has been there. If there wasn’t nine guys out in the field, I’d have a hit every time except when I strike out."
–Devil Rays outfielder Delmon Young, on his struggles this spring (St. Petersburg Times)
Perhaps he could arrange for Bugs Bunny to play all 9 positions …
"Announcing a change in the line up. Now pitching for the Tea Totalers: Bugs Bunny. Playing first base: Bugs Bunny. Second base: Bugs Bunny. Third base: Bugs Bunny. Catching: Bugs Bunny."
A lot of guys, when they retire they want to stay here (the major leagues). When I retire, I’m going to Little League. That’s where they need the teaching. If you teach kids the basics there, it will stick with them."
–Mariner DH Carl Everett, on what he’ll do when he retires (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
Isn’t this the same Carl Everett who was arrested many years ago for child endangerment?
